Why don’t you take insurance?
Insurance companies can be bossy, and I am not a fan of being bossed around. They like to tell you what you can get therapy for and how many sessions you are allowed. They also tell you that you need an official “Diagnosis” in order to be eligible for services. I do not align with that philosophy and therefore I avoid working with insurance companies. You are always welcome to ask me for a super bill which can be submitted to your insurance company, they may reimburse you part of the fee for an “out of network” provider.
How many sessions will it take to feel better?
This is super individualized and really up to the commitment of the therapy participant. Therapy is about guiding you/ your child to the answers that are already inside. The amount of time it takes to find those answers are usually specific to how motivated and willing a client is. I will tell you that I have a direct approach and I encourage my clients to push themselves. If I do not see improvement quickly we would certainly talk about whether or not we are a good fit!
What can I expect from the first session?
In the first session I get to know you and why you came to therapy, I gather any background information I need and we go over fee and payment structure. I will most likely get into a small amount of therapeutic work and assign some “Homework” that you can do outside of therapy. Any assignments offered will be in direct support of your goals for you/ your child/ family and they will surely enhance the growth process.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
Come having completed the online paperwork and be ready to get right down to rewarding work therapy can offer!
Who will you meet with first?
When working with children/ adolescents, I like to meet with both child and parent together, after hearing your specific needs and goals we will formulate a plan of what therapy will look like from there.
Why does the whole family need to be involved?
Family systems are complex, often times the one struggling in the family is really just acting out symptoms of struggle in a larger system. I prefer the family to be open to talking about these systems. This is not always the case, and sometimes after the initial session, I will work solely with the child. This is more common with older children and adolescents.
